Zen Studios have released another four tables of awesome pinball for all you wizards out there. While we have been use to them releasing Marvel tables and other tables based on current game titles, they have gone in a different direction this time round. They have dug into four of there classic tables, gave then the Pinball FX 2 magic upgrade and hey presto! Four truly remarkable re-mastered pinball tables for your pleasure. Want to know if it’s worth the very reasonable 800 MSP? Then check out my opinions on the tables below.
The treasures of Eldorado have long been buried in the depths of dangerous jungles in ancient Mayan lands. Journey though the perils of the ancient ruins, activate Mayan technology to unlock puzzles, and avoid deadly traps during the hunt for hidden treasures that will make you rich beyond your wildest imagination.
This was the first table I played which is an easy table to learn and one table that will allow you to easily put up some pretty high scores. The table plays at a comfortable speed not too fast and not too slow, so even if you are a beginner you can still score high. To starts the main adventures you have to shoot at the Stone Idol and raise it 3 times which is easy enough shooting from the left flipper. Shooting the spinner will allow you to choose a different adventure. There are two other challenges which include you jumping the ball over a blade and the other takes you to a mini-playfield.
Experience life as a novice witch doctor who must master the trade of summoning spectacular phenomena in Shaman. Manoeuvre the silver ball through treacherous spin discs, ramp jumps, challenging missions, and crazy playfield toys! Harness the power of the supernatural and prove you are the true Shaman.
This table is quite challenging as you take the chance of getting to many ball drains when going for the main feature in this table. The aim is to hit the three targets in front of the dude with the bongo drums. Do this and it lowers the shield to the hole to then summon the Magic Whirlwind which will see the whirlwinds on the table spin. In this table instantly reminded me of the Whirlwind table from the 90’s. I found this to be a slightly slower playing table as you hold the ball to try and line up shots to combat the ball drains.
Conduct dangerous experiments and uncover the mysteries of the brilliant turn-of-the-century scientist in Tesla. Guide the silver ball to emit electromagnetic waves and activate electric arcs that provide life to the genius inventions that power the world we enjoy today.
I really enjoy Tesla not only does the table itself look good, it’s the one table you will be able to keep the one ball on a long time. This is thanks to the generous amount of time the Ball Save stays lit for and also how easy it is to keep activating it. Don’t worry though as this table isn’t generous in the scoring department making you have to work for your score. This table makes good use of Magna Save as well as the mini-playfield that use Magna ball as well. You can also change the lane direction on the main lanes too which keeps the game flowing at a reasonable pace.
Tune your engines for maximum performance in V12, a pinball table for automotive gearheads! Upgrade parts and create the perfect driving machine as you turbo charge your way around the ramps. This table is built for those who live life without limits, so max the nitro tank and be the first to cross the finish line!
Now this table has a hell of a lot going on with plenty of features and ramps to play for. It’s also possibly one of the more challenging tables out of the four, as I found the ball to feel rather heavy. It was taking me a couple of attempts to get the ball up the ramp. I like the mini-playfield that’s in the centre under the tables glass, which again is tricky to make the target hits as it has quite a bit of space between the flippers. As the table involves car this is quite a fast table to play.
The Good Things
- 4 classic Zen tables that is welcomed and make great use of the Pinball FX 2 upgrades.
- Each of the four tables feels very unique in play style.
- They might be classic tables but they sure do look fantastic and sound superb as usual.
- A steal at only 800 MSP
And The Bad
- Not as high scoring as the marvel tables, although just as challenging and fun to play
These tables may be classic tables but they still play great today and if you already own all the other tables then get these too. The tables have certainly benefited from the Pinball FX 2 upgraded physics, graphics and social features we are use to seeing today. I found the selection of each table to have their own unique play style and addictiveness which is always great, as there is nothing worse than feeling like more than one table feels the same. I would have to say that Eldorado is the table I love the most but the other three are very close behind it. I will certainly have repeated visits on them and its 800 MSP well spent.
For those achievement hunters out there, each table has one achievement worth 50GS. On Eldorado the achievement couldn’t be simpler, and on V12 I got it through luck. The other two tables I have still yet to get the achievements, but they don’t look too difficult to achieve.
